How to Stay Consistent on Instagram as a Travel Agent with MAPS

Instagram Tips for Travel Agents

Tell me if this sounds familiar…you promise yourself THIS will be the week that you finally post on Instagram! You scroll Instagram and Facebook looking for inspiration for what to post, you save ideas, but when it comes to actually knowing what to say, you get stuck again.

Your mind blanks.

Then messages start chiming, your child needs another form signed for school, and dinner’s about to burn on the stove…guess we’ll try again next week? Sigh

It’s a vicious cycle that happens to all of us…until you find a system that helps you stay consistent and pulls you out.

Why is it so hard to stay consistent on Instagram?

Well, let’s state the obvious: you started your travel business to book travel, not keep up with social media trends and marketing strategies. However, marketing and building a business go hand-in-hand.

On top of returning emails, quoting vacations, rebooking flights, carlines, and meal planning, it’s easy for something like posting to Instagram or sending an email to fall on the back burner.

At the core of inconsistency are these main things:

Time: not building content creation into your weekly schedule

💬 Not knowing what to say: thinking you need to say something new every day

😞 Uninspired: not sure what to post, everything feels “stale”

😥 Fear: afraid of showing your personality, judgment, and perfection

So, how can travel agents stay consistent on Instagram and other marketing channels?

The secret to staying consistent on Instagram as a travel agent is having a repeatable content system, so you have a foundation to start with every week!

If you’ve spent any amount of time scrolling through Instagram for business tips, you’ve probably already heard of content pillars, but just in case, content pillars are categories/themes for your content that have a specific job (like building connection, trust or conversions).

Content pillars allow you to start your content creation with a specific goal or theme to begin with, so you can save time every week.

And don’t worry, I’m doing some of the heavy lifting for you!

The MAPS Method: Content Pillars for Travel Agents

What is the MAPS method?

It’s a content framework I created to help travel agents create well-rounded content that connects and converts.

M = Moments → Connection + engagement

A = Advice → Trust + authority + saves

P = Process → Trust + conversion

S = Spark → Conversions + engagement

Let’s break down what each one looks like (plus, some hooks to swipe!).

M is for Moments: Content That Builds Connection

Why it works: Allows people to connect with YOU the human, not just the travel agent. These are the real, relatable posts that make people feel like they know you and say, “oh, I like her!”

What to post:

  • Relatable content (mom life, seasonal content, obsessions, strong opinions, etc)
  • Trends
  • Behind the scenes (weekend recaps, what you’re reading, buying, etc.)
  • Emotional content (sentimental, reflections, humor, etc.)

Hooks to try:

  • The older I get, the more I realize [happiness/success/joy] looks like …
  • My toxic trait is that I can plan a [niche itinerary] in my sleep but can’t __ to save my life

A is for Advice: Content That Builds Trust

Why it works: This type of content lets your expertise shine! Share personal experiences and insider knowledge that people can’t typically find with a quick Google search.

This is the information that people save for later and begin to realize, “This person really knows what they’re talking about!!”

What to post:

  • Niche-specific topics (the more specific you can be, the better)
  • Hot takes (share your strong opinions)
  • Problem-solving hacks, tips, etc.
  • Answer FAQs

Hooks to try:

  • No one tells you this about [all-inclusives/cruising/tipping/etc] but I will…
  • Steal my [ex: flight] survival kit for traveling with [anxious fliers/babies/etc]
  • Here’s what most people get wrong about planning ____

P is for Process: Content That Turns Followers Into Clients

Why it works: Process content lets your followers see what it’s like to work with you and what they’re missing out on if they don’t.

And you have to go beyond “here’s what it’s like to work with me” and “what I do as your travel agent”; you’ll need to paint a picture of what that actually looks like.

What to post:

  • Client stories
  • Your planning process (what it is that you look for when sending recommendations, what you’re including in your quotes, non-negotiables that every client gets)
  • Your story (how you started as a travel agent, why you’re passionate, your mission, etc.)

Hooks to try:

  • # things I reserve for my clients to avoid wait times in [destination]
  • What I ALWAYS add to my clients’ [destination] itineraries
  • I never thought my love of __ would lead me here

S is for Spark: Travel Content That Gets People Dreaming (and DMing) of Where To Go Next

Why it works: These are the posts that inspire people to travel to specific destinations and tap into the emotions of why they’re traveling.

What to post:

  • Sample itineraries
  • Resorts and destinations

The key is to make your hook super specific: speaking to a specific type of traveler, travel style, niche, etc.

Hooks to try:

  • I’ve stayed at over ## resorts, here are the ones I’d return to in a heartbeat
  • POV: You’re a [type of traveler] looking for the best ___ in [destination]

How Often Should Travel Agents Be Posting on Instagram?

There’s no magic number, find a posting schedule that you can actually stick with. Remember, consistency doesn’t mean posting every day.

Personally, I think that 3-4 times a week on Instagram is plenty!

Bonus Tips to Help Your Content Stand Out!!

No more hiding. Your face, your personality, and your voice matter is what’s going to help your content far more than a perfectly curated stock picture. Write the words and phrases you would actually say to your friends.

Specificity wins. Call out your ideal client in your hooks, captions, etc. I have a whole other blog post for you that will help you nail this: Slow the Scroll: Instagram Reels Tips for Travel Agents
